JOSEPH M. DOYLE, Q.C.

Joseph Doyle, Q.C. is a senior trial and appellate lawyer with a broad range of experience before all levels of Court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He has defended or prosecuted a broad spectrum of criminal cases, including many homicide cases and other serious or high profile cases, among them the “BC Rail/Legislature Raid” case. He is designated and has acted as a Special Prosecutor.

Mr. Doyle also practices administrative law, and appears as counsel to or before tribunals, and on judicial review of decisions of tribunals. He has been commission counsel or public hearing counsel on various Police Act matters, and was counsel before the Braidwood Commission of Inquiry.

Mr. Doyle has served the legal profession in a variety of capacities: as Vancouver Bar Association (VBA) Vice-President, 2003; VBA President, 2004; and as VBA Past-President, 2005. He has also served as an elected member of the Provincial Council of the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) from 2000 to 2003 and as a member of the CBA’s Advisory Committee to Judicial Council from 2002 to 2005. For several years, Mr. Doyle contributed as an editor of the BC Law Society’s Practice Checklist Manual, and he has been an active writer and/or panelist in various forms of continuing legal education. Outside the legal profession, he has remained active in his community in a variety of roles.
